Meerut, July 3 -- The Sambhal district administration has released a set of guidelines to ensure peaceful and disciplined observance of Muharram. The directives were outlined during a peace committee meeting held at the Kotwali police station on Wednesday and presided over by additional superintendent of police (North) Rajesh Kumar Srivastava. Highlighting key safety and communal harmony concerns, ASP Srivastava announced that minors will not be permitted to carry 'alams' (religious standards) or 'tazias' (symbolic replicas of tombs) during the processions. This decision, he said, was made keeping in mind the risk of accidents involving overhead electrical wires. The use of loud drums in front of worship places belonging to other religions will also be strictly banned, in order to maintain interfaith peace and prevent unnecessary provocation. "Muharram is a symbol of mourning. Playing drums is part of the tradition, but it should not become a spectacle or a matter of competition," Srivastava emphasised. As per the official schedule, the 'alam' processions will take place on July 3, while the main Muharram procession is slated for July 6. During the meeting, ASP Sambhal, CO Sambhal, and CO Asmoli jointly issued several important directives to organisers and community members. Among the key points highlighted: the maximum height of tazias has been capped at 10 feet, all processions must strictly follow traditional routes; no permission will be granted for new or disputed paths, volunteers participating in the events must ensure compliance with regulations and assist the authorities in maintaining crowd control. The local administration also issued a stern warning against any negligence or incitement, stating that strict legal action will be taken against offenders. The officials appealed to all communities to observe the festival with cooperation, respect, and harmony....
