PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 30 -- Police said they were investigating the alleged rape of a minor girl after she was spotted abandoning her newborn baby in a garbage bin in the Kareli area here. After receiving a complaint, Kareli police went to the scene and recovered the body of the newborn. The post-mortem examination conducted on Monday stated that the child was alive at birth but died from a head injury. The newborn's bones have been preserved for DNA testing. During questioning, it came to light that the 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour Pissu Nishad, after which the child was born, officials said. Police registered a case of rape and arrested Nishad, SHO Ashish Singh said. The girl's father said he and his daughter lived together after his wife divorced. He told police that Nishad seduced his daughter and assaulted her. She gave birth last Friday. On Monday evening, she abandoned the baby in the garbage when the father was away. People nearby saw her doing this and informed the police....
