PRAYAGRAJ, May 18 -- Two minor brothers who had gone to take a dip in the river died due to drowning at Bara Dashrathpur Ganga Ghat in Paranipur under Meja police station area in the trans-Yamuna region of Prayagraj on Saturday, police said. Both were taken to a hospital in Bhirpur where doctors declared them dead. They were identified as Harsh, 9, and Adarsh 8, sons of Shivachal Tiwari, a resident of Dashrathpur village in Paranipur, police said. Both Harsh and Adarsh accompanied their cousin, Lavkush Pandey, 27, who went to take a dip in the Ganga river. While bathing, Adarsh accidentally reached the middle of the river. Seeing him struggle, Harsh rushed to his rescue, and both drowned. A suspected cow smuggler was arrested after an encounter with police near the Port Turn under Ramnagar police station limits on Saturday, officials said. Deputy commissioner of police (Crime), Saravanan T, said the arrested accused has been identified as Arif, a resident of Rampur district. "Two of his accomplices, Shadab and Gulfam, fled the scene and are being searched for." The injured suspect was taken to hospital and is now stable, police said. Police recovered 27 cows from the trailer during the search operation. Seven people accused of involvement in online gambling were arrested near Sonia Pokhara locality under Sigra police station area in Varanasi during anti-gambling drive on Saturday, police said. Gambling equipment worth Rs.12,386, two Android mobile phones, a watch, a calculator, and a scanner were recovered from their possession, they added. The bodies of a young couple were found hanging from a tree in a forest on the outskirts Pati village under Sonbhadra district's Pipri police station area on Saturday, police said. Confirming it, additional superintendent of police (operation) Kalu Singh said on getting information, a police team rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination.
