Minister launches app to verify authenticity of liquor
LUCKNOW, Nov. 18 -- Uttar Pradesh minister of state (independent charge) for excise and prohibition Nitin Agarwal on Monday launched the UP excise citizen app through which people can scan the QR code on purchased liquor bottles to verify their authenticity.
In case of any discrepancy, consumers can lodge their grievances through toll-free helpline number 14405. Complaints can also be filed through the IGRS using the 'Grievance' menu available in the app.
"The excise department is committed to ensuring the sale of standard liquor/beer through country liquor shops, composite, model shops, and premium retail vends. In this regard, the accessible 'UP Excise Citizen App' has been developed, demonstrating complete transparency for liquor/beer consumers. Any citizen/consumer can download it on their mobile phone," the minister said after launching the app at the Sugarcane Institute's auditorium.
"By scanning the QR code printed on the excise adhesive label affixed to any liquor bottle/aseptic brick pack/can, etc., sold at any liquor shop, all necessary information related to the liquor bottle can be viewed through the app. This can be verified with the details printed on the bottle label and the details of the respective retail shop," he added....
