MiG fighter jet likely to be displayed at UP Darshan Park
LUCKNOW, Aug. 21 -- Apart from the replicas of state's popular structures highlighting its cultural heritage on display, the visitors are likely to get an opportunity to see decommissioned MiG-27 fighter aircraft at UP Darshan Park in Gomti Nagar.
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) had earlier requested the defence to install these jets, which recently got the approval and now it has reached the city. The defence officials have even inspected the park for its installation.
LDA officials confirmed that defence authorities have approved the request to hand over decommissioned aircraft for public display. A team of officials has already surveyed the park to identify the most suitable spot. "We have inspected the area and will soon finalise the location. Once the report is ready, the aircraft will be placed for public viewing," said an LDA official associated with the project.
The UP Darshan Park, located just a few metres from the LDA head office, has been leased to a private agency for its operations and maintenance under a public-private partnership.
The official believes that the display of MIG aircraft will not only add a unique attraction but also increase footfall, especially among families and children eager to witness a fighter jet up close.
A defence spokesperson familiar with the development, on the condition of anonymity, explained that aircraft which are no longer in service are being provided for display at public spaces on the request of civic bodies, schools, and government departments. "These aircraft may not fly anymore, but they continue to symbolize the country's military pride and inspire the younger generation," the spokesperson said.
Officials pointed out that a similar MiG aircraft has already been installed at Janeshwar Mishra Park, where it remains a key attraction for visitors. The LDA hopes to replicate that success at UP Darshan Park, drawing more people to the facility.
Currently, defence teams are assessing the feasibility of the proposed UP Darshan site. Once they give technical clearance, the fighter aircraft will be formally installed for public viewing.
With this step, the LDA aims to make UP Darshan Park a more engaging space, combining amusement with inspiration for visitors....
