Merchant navy officer bookedafter wife's body found hanging
LUCKNOW, Aug. 6 -- A day after the body of a 26-year-old woman was found hanging at her flat in Omaxe City, Gomti Nagar Extension, under suspicious circumstances, an FIR (first information report) was registered against her husband, a merchant navy officer, on the charges of dowry death, cruelty and miscarriage without consent, police said on Tuesday.
The FIR was registered at the Sushant Golf City police station based on a complaint given by the deceased's father, a resident of Indira Nagar.
The couple got married on February 25 earlier this year, police said.
As per reports, at around 4:30pm on August 4, the complainant was informed by his son-in-law about his daughter's death. The complainant alleged that his son-in-law had frequently demanded dowry and assaulted his daughter on multiple occasions. He also alleged that the accused was having an extramarital affair.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Nipun Agarwal confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty by husband), 89 (miscarriage without consent), and sections 3 & 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
A Lucknow-based businessman was duped of Rs.1.77 crore in an online trading scam that began with a WhatsApp message and ended with his investment account being blocked.
The case has been registered at the Cyber Crime police station, police said. The victim, Vivek Verma, a native of Safedabad in Barabanki currently residing in Indira Nagar, alleged that in the WhatsApp message received from one Shruti Jaiswal a few weeks ago, he was introduced to a trading platform offering high returns. Verma invested a total of Rs.1.77 crore between May 27 and July 16.
However, when he attempted to withdraw the profits, his account was blocked....
