Jaipur, Dec. 21 -- After launching the 'Aravalli Virasat Jan Abhiyaan' on December 11, civil society groups from Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Rajasthan on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Banswara MP Rajkumar Roat for saving the Aravalli range across the three states from being destroyed. "On 20th November 2025, the SC bench accepted the recommendations made by a committee spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change with regard to the definition of the "Aravalli Hills and Ranges" with respect to mining. The new definition treats a landform as part of the Aravalli landscape only if it has at least 100m of elevation above the local relief, including the landform's slopes and adjacent areas," the memorandum read. "India's oldest mountain range has been bleeding for the last few decades due to licensed and illegal mining and real estate development with hill after hill being razed to the ground. Aravallis require strict protection." Virender Mour, Coodinator of Rajasthan Kisan Mazdoor Naujawan Sabha, said, "Mr Raj Kumar Roat, a MP representing the Bharat Adivasi Party assured that his regional party will strengthen the grassroots opposition against the verdict as it negatively impacts the rights and lives of lakhs of adivasis." Meanwhile, on Saturday, advocates under the banner of the District Bar Association and Bar Association, staged a protest against activities affecting the Aravalli hills. The lawyers started their rally from the court premises and, raising slogans, marched peacefully to the District Collectorate. There, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through ADM Deependra Singh, demanding immediate steps for protection of Aravallis. Bar Association president Jitendra Jain said, "Development is necessary for any state, but playing with nature at any cost is unacceptable. Every decision must be taken thoughtfully, keeping local sentiments and environmental balance in mind."...
