Meghalaya police get Sonam's custody for 3 days
VARANASI, June 11 -- Meghalaya police left for the state with Sonam Raghuvanshi, who has been named as an accused in the murder case of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, around 11.45 pm on Monday after a court in Ghazipur granted them a three-day or 72-hour transit remand.
The newlyweds had gone missing while on their honeymoon in Meghalaya last month. A week after the husband's body was found, Sonam appeared at an eatery in Ghazipur.
A team of four police officials from Meghalaya, including a woman officer and led by a deputy superintendent of police, reached Ghazipur around 4.30 pm on Monday. The team went to the One Stop Centre around 7 pm where Sonam was detained.
Amid heavy police deployment, the Shillong police, with assistance from the Ghazipur police, took Sonam to the district government hospital and medical college, where a team of seven doctors performed a medical examination on Sonam.
Sonam was taken to a court at around 8.10 pm. The court allowed for her to be taken on a three-day transit remand for further investigation.
The police team left Meghalaya with Sonam a little before midnight. On the way, the team took her to Patna via Mau, Ballia, and Buxar.
Earlier, after initial treatment at a Ghazipur hospital, Sonam was taken to the One Stop Center around 5 am. She stayed there till 5 pm....
