MEERUT, June 27 -- A 21-year-old youth, who was found shot dead in a sugarcane field in Amehra Adipur village under Meerut's Ganganagar police station limits, early on Wednesday, had planned an attack on himself in a bid to frame the family of his alleged girlfriend, police said on Thursday. SP (rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed it. "What was meant to be a staged shooting turned into a real tragedy. The minor friend of the deceased is in custody and we are taking further legal action accordingly," he said. Harsh, a daily wage labourer, was allegedly shot by his 16-year-old minor friend on Tuesday night with a country-made pistol. The bullet, intended to graze his abdomen, struck his chest instead-killing him on the spot. As per the police, Harsh was in a relationship with a woman whose family strongly opposed the affair. Two days before the incident, the woman's family had reportedly assaulted Harsh and snatched away his mobile phone. Following the altercation, Harsh hatched a plan to falsely implicate the woman's family. On Tuesday evening, after returning home from work, Harsh left again around 7pm. He met his minor friend at a local tube well, where the two consumed alcohol. Later, Harsh gave his friend a pistol and instructed him to shoot at and injure him. However, the friend, under the influence of alcohol, misfired. The bullet struck Harsh on the right side of his chest, killing him on the spot....
