MEERUT, Oct. 8 -- A retired soldier attacked his daughter-in-law with an axe, leaving her critically injured in Meerut on Tuesday. The attacker, identified as Iqbal Hasan, later turned himself in to the police. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Nauchandi police station. After the attack, Hasan walked to the police station, confessed to assaulting his daughter-in-law Rahat, and asked officers to arrest him. Police immediately reached the spot and shifted her to Meerut Medical College Hospital, where doctors described her condition as critical, said police. According to a police officer, the primary inquiry indicated a long-standing domestic dispute between the retired soldier and his daughter-in-law.
