MEERUT, Nov. 24 -- The Meerut district administration will form a three-member committee to ensure proper and timely testing and treatment of coronavirus patients here. The move comes after a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases here and elsewhere in the National Capital Region (NCR). The step is being taken in consonance with a directive from a senior official of the state government.

Meerut district currently has 1,780 active cases and 1,051 patients are undergoing treatment in home isolation. A total of 14,179 patients have been discharged after treatment. So far, 16,316 patients have tested positive in the district since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and 351 patients died during treatment, according to official data.
