MEERUT, June 4 -- Panic gripped the Zahidian locality in Meerut on Tuesday afternoon after five explosions rocked a residential building, partially collapsing it. The last blast brought down the roof. Police suspect that the incident is linked to illegal firecrackers or bomb-making activity. No casualties were reported, but the building suffered extensive damage. The house is jointly owned by three brothers-Shadab, Zahid, and Shahid. Shadab, an e-rickshaw driver, lives there with his wife Shaheen and their children, while Zahid and Shahid are involved in the fireworks business, primarily supplying firecrackers for wedding events. Soon after the incident, locals gathered at the site, and police arrived along with a forensic team and the police field unit. During their inspection, officers found several crude bombs (sutli bombs) on a section of the collapsed roof. Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh stated that preliminary investigation indicates the presence of firework-related chemicals, possibly including potassium compounds, stored on the roof, which may have triggered the explosions....
