AYODHYA, June 2 -- Ayodhya officials have initiated action to prohibit the sale of meat along prominent religious routes such as Ram Path, Dharma Path, Bhakti Path, and the 14-Kosi and 5-Kosi Parikrama Marg. The move follows a complaint raised at chief minister Yogi Adityanath's Janata Darbar, prompting inspections and subsequent issuance of notices to shopkeepers. Ayodhya mayor Girish Pati Tripathi confirmed that the move to restrict meat sales had been under discussion for a long time. "It was decided that the sale of meat must be prohibited on Ram Path. The idea had been under discussion for a very long time," he said. He further informed that a ban on liquor sales along the same religious routes is also being planned. "We are sure that we will soon ban liquor sales too," he added. Food safety officer Manik Chand said a team was deployed to inspect the areas after the complaint. "A total of 22 meat shops were found operating along these religious routes. All have been served notices and given seven days to shift their outlets elsewhere. If they do not comply, action will follow. Any other shops found later will also be dealt with similarly," he said.
