LUCKNOW, Dec. 23 -- A programme was organised by Birju Maharaj Kathak Sansthan at Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium on Monday. The evening presented a confluence of tradition, rhythm, and expression, introducing the audience to the delicate elegance of Kathak. The programme was inaugurated by prof Manuka Khanna, Lucknow University vice-chancellor. As part of the evening, renowned artists of the Lucknow gharana and daughters of the distinguished guru of the Lucknow gharana Pandit Arjun Mishra-Smriti Mishra Tandon and Kantika Mishra performed on the occasion. The opening presentation depicted the Dashavatar - the 10 majestic incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This was followed by a presentation in Teentaal, moving from Vilambit to Madhya Laya, showcasing the grace and subtlety of the Lucknow Gharana through Uthaan, Aamad, Dhatak Thunga, Paran-judi Aamad, Kavitt, and distinctive compositions performed in Teelaya with intricate spins. The footwork in the Dadra rhythmic cycle left the audience spellbound. In the end, a performance in Laya-gati, with depiction of signature compositions of the Lucknow Gharana, including Bandish, Tihai, Paran, and dynamic Drut Laya Gat.
