LUCKNOW, June 1 -- On the completion of two years in office, mayor Sushma Kharkwal on Saturday highlighted key development milestones achieved by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), including solid waste management reforms, digital surveillance, and smart city initiatives. Speaking at an event held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan under the 'Seva aur Samarpan' programme, the mayor said Lucknow has made major strides in cleanliness and urban planning, thanks to teamwork by officials, corporators, and citizens. She highlighted projects like the Shivri garbage disposal plant, door-to-door waste collection, and the launch of Lucknow Smart App for civic services. She also underlined efforts to convert waste into useful materials through MRF centres and transfer stations. Praising Kharakwal for her leadership, urban development minister AK Sharma said LMC's waste-to-product initiative aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Prime Minister's vision of a self-reliant India. "Lucknow is not just getting cleaner, but also emerging as a defence manufacturing hub," he remarked.
