Mayor hauls up officials over tax revision delay, road repairs
LUCKNOW, Oct. 25 -- Mayor Sushma Kharkwal expressed her displeasure over the issues of delay in tax revisions, incomplete streetlight installations and stalled patchwork on broken roads in the city during the executive committee meeting that she chaired at the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) headquarters here on Friday.
Streetlight installation planned across 110 wards before Dussehra and Diwali remains incomplete and patchwork on damaged roads has stalled despite funds being allocated by both the mayor and councillors.
The mayor also expressed displeasure over the non-implementation of previous resolutions, including the naming of Amritlal Nagar intersection.
"Two months have passed, yet the intersection remains unnamed, showing disregard for the executive committee's decision," she said, seeking immediate explanations.
She also directed officials to expedite the pending appointments of 18 dependents of deceased persons in the health department.
Kharkwal flayed the LMC street lighting department for delay in installing 25 lights in each ward, directing the officials concerned to submit a detailed response in the next meeting.
She highlighted inconsistencies in tender processes, citing that a Rs 70 lakh tender required Rs 50 lakh eligibility, while a Rs 6 crore tender had only Rs 30 lakh eligibility.
The mayor noted that patchwork on roads remains incomplete despite authorising Rs 50 lakh from her own funds and Rs 5 lakh from each councillor. She directed the release of an additional Rs 10 crore to expedite repairs.
She also questioned salary disparities for computer operators and the prolonged legal fees for advocates, ordering officials to resolve these issues immediately.
On administrative reforms, she instructed the general manager of the water supply department and the chief engineer of the civil department to report directly to the municipal commissioner.
The mayor has given the orders to remove the additional municipal commissioners from zonal duties, with full responsibility now assigned to respective zonal officers.
The meeting was attended by executive vice president Charanjit Gandhi, committee members, the municipal commissioner, the additional municipal commissioners and officials from the municipal corporation and the jalkal department.
The next executive committee meeting is scheduled for October 30....
