LUCKNOW, Dec. 4 -- In a sudden turn of events, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Wednesday announced that she would not address the rally marking the death anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) on December 6. Citing security concerns and inconvenience caused to people due to large gatherings in her meetings, Mayawati said she had decided against visiting Dalit sites and instead offer floral tributes to Dalit icons at her residence or party office on their birth and death anniversaries. In a post on X on Wednesday, Mayawati said: "People face inconvenience as they are stopped far from the main venue until I depart from there. For this reason, I have now decided not to visit these sites (Dalit memorials) and instead offer floral tributes to luminaries on their birth and death anniversaries at my residence or at the party office". Mayawati's decision not to attend the rally sparked speculation across political circles. The BSP chief had been camping in Delhi since mid-November reviewing preparations for the rally and holding meetings with party leaders to mobilise the cadre from West UP, Delhi and Uttarakhand. Social media was abuzz with BSP leaders and workers requesting the party chief to reconsider her decision, saying they had toiled hard to make the rally grand. Sources said national convenor Akash Anand is likely to address the rally on December 6....
