Massive fire guts several shops at Lko veggie market
Lucknow, April 10 -- A massive fire broke out at the Birwa vegetable market in the Krishna Nagar area of Lucknow late Thursday night, triggering panic and large-scale evacuation in the vicinity. No casualty was reported.
The blaze, reported around 10 pm near the Phoenix Mall, spread rapidly across the market, which spans nearly 50,000 square feet and houses around 100 shops selling fruits, vegetables, grains and other goods.
The fire's impact was also felt near the Phoenix Mall, located opposite the market, where smoke engulfed the surroundings, causing alarm among nearby establishments.
Traders alleged that firefighting teams reached the spot after a delay of nearly one to one-and-a-half hours. A total of nine fire tenders were deployed at the site, and efforts to douse the flames were still underway at the time of filing this report.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing 10 to 12 loud explosions during the blaze, raising suspicion of LPG cylinders bursting, which further fuelled panic in the area.The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. htc...
