Massive fire guts 50 shops in Knp market

According to officials, the blaze began when a chemical drum being unloaded from a truck fell to the ground and ignited. The highly flammable substance caught fire in the intense afternoon heat and quickly spread to a nearby cotton warehouse, fuelling the flames.
Multiple explosions followed due to small and large LPG cylinders stored in the market. Fortunately, there were no casualties from the blasts.
Eyewitnesses said panic gripped the market as shopkeepers and workers rushed to save goods and flee the area. Thick smoke engulfed the surroundings as fire brigade teams worked to control the blaze.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Satyajeet Gupta said the fire was largely under control by late evening. "Preliminary findings suggest the cause was accidental, but further investigation is ongoing," he added.
The injured have been admitted to UHM Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have begun assessing the damage and have launched an inquiry into the storage and handling of hazardous materials in the area....
