Massive blaze engulfs building in Aliganj, five firefighters injured
LUCKNOW, Oct. 25 -- A massive fire broke out in a three-storey building in Lucknow's Aliganj area on Friday night. The fire, which is believed to have started at around 6:50 pm, quickly spread to the entire building.
One Amarjeet, who deals in photo framing work and owns a shop near Kapoorthala Chauraha, had a godown in the building that caught fire, said joint commissioner of police (law and order), Lucknow, Babloo Kumar.
Five firefighters suffered injuries when the balcony of the godown roof fell on them while they were extinguishing the fire, said chief fire officer (CFO), Lucknow, Ankush Mittal.
They were immediately sent to a nearby hospital, where they were undergoing treatment and were reported to be out of danger, he added.
They were identified as Mahendra Kumar Bind, Gangamani Singh, Ashok Kumar, Rajnish and Sunil Kumar, the CFO said.
According to eyewitnesses, some labourers were working in the building when the fire broke out.
The building is located in a narrow lane, and the fire department faced difficulties in reaching the spot.
The CFO, Lucknow, said the fire department received a distress call at 6:50 pm, following which 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. He said the godown is adjacent to a private hostel, which houses around 15 girls.
The girls were rescued safely by the fire fighters. The cause of the blaze was yet to be determined, he added....
