Many parts of city reel under outages
LUCKNOW, June 10 -- The scorching heat pushed power consumption in the city to around 1840 mw on Monday even as multiple localities in the city faced power outages on Sunday night due to transformer malfunctions and fires in power lines, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
In Indira Nagar Sector 20, power was cut at 9pm for about 3 hours. Officials at the substation reported that a transformer near Samudipur caught fire, leading to the disruption. Another outage occurred at 12:30am for 45 minutes, and the supply continued to be intermittent throughout the night, with a pattern of 45-minute cuts every hour until 6am Monday.
In Laxmanpuri and Ravindrapalli, a fault in the transformer caused frequent tripping between 11pm and 2:30am.
A fire broke out in the ABC power line at Hata Sitara Begum locality, connected to the Chowpatian substation, cutting off power to nearby areas including Sarai Mali Khan, from around 1am.
Meanwhile, Rani Katra in Chowpatian experienced a blackout for the entire night, and by Monday morning, restoration efforts were underway with no stable supply restored yet.
Nadar Ganj, Aminabad, Kakori, Rahimabad, and LDA Colony along Kanpur Road faced prolonged power cuts due to incidents of burning of ABC (Aerial Bunch Conductors), cable faults, transformer oil leaks and feeder breakdowns. In many areas, residents reported being without power for hours, with calls to local power substations going unanswered as official CUG numbers remained busy.
In Sector I near Pakri Pul (Bangla Bazar substation), a transformer oil leak at 2:15pm led to a power cut that lasted until 5:30pm, impacting a large area. In Shivnagar Khadra, a burnt lead on a 630 KVA transformer knocked out supply to 300 homes until late afternoon. Ismailganj's Kamta area saw a similar outage due to oil leakage from another 400 KVA transformer.
In Chitwapur Pajawa, power outage started around 11pm. Residents who contacted the local power substation were informed that the outage was due to a fault in the LT (Low Tension) line. As hours passed without resolution, a group of locals reached the substation to express their anger. Power was finally restored at 5am.
