MEERUT, June 16 -- Long queues of tractors, full of wheat sacks, were seen at different wheat procurement centres in Bulandshahr district on the last day of the procurement on Tuesday.
Anxious over missing the deadline, farmers demanded the extension of date for procurement so that they are not compelled to sell their produce at much lower price than government declared minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,975 per quintal.
Bulandshahr is a major wheat producing district in the region and the administration has established 117 wheat procurement centres here.
District magistrate (DM) Ravindra Kumar claimed that 1.42 lakh metric ton of wheat was procured this year in comparison to 92,000 metric ton last year.
