LUCKNOW, July 30 -- For now, Uttar Pradesh Athletics Association (UPAA) doesn't have any record book to check the achievements of an athlete, if he or she breaks a record in the state championships as the old guards haven't handed over the book to the new set of people. But this isn't hurting the chances of state athletes from achievning the qualifying standards of the 64th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held from August 20 to 24 at the JN Stadium in Chennai. On Tuesday, Meerut's Mansi cleared 1.82 metre in women's high jump not only to win a gold medal on day one of the 28th Uttar Pradesh State Senior (B) Athletics Championship, but also qualified for the Chennai's event by overpowering the qualifying mark of 1.65m. Mansi compatriot Seema Kumari with a jump of 1.55m won silver, whereas Varanasi's Gunjan Yadav won bronze medal with a jump of 1.40m. Unnao's Mohd Shahban too qualified for the national championship in the men's hammer throw as he threw the iron ball to a distance of 68.54m against the qualifying mark of 60.00m. Both Vishal Chaudhary of Bulandshahr (64.96m) and Sachin Yadav of Baghpat (62.46m) too qualified for the Chennai's meet.
