Manjha menace: Another biker injured; 10th incident in 10 days
LUCKNOW, Feb. 14 -- A local journalist was injured after a banned nylon kite string (Chinese manjha) got entangled around his neck while he was riding a motorcycle in the state capital on Friday evening -- tenth such incident in a span of 10 days despite crackdown on the sale of the deadly string. The victim, Dhruv Narayan Pandey, sustained a deep cut to his throat and was rushed to hospital, police said.
The incident reportedly occurred near Pakri Ka Pul towards Cantonment in the Alambagh area at around 6 pm. It was the tenth such incident in the past 10 days after the death of Mohammad Shoaib, 33, in Bazaarkhala brought the issue to light. On Thursday, a second-year MDS student was also injured near Hahnemann Crossing.
According to preliminary information, Pandey was travelling on his two-wheeler when the manjha suddenly wrapped around his neck. The incident happened so abruptly that he had no time to react. Speaking to HT, Pandey said he required five stitches to the neck.
Passers-by immediately came to his rescue and took him to the emergency department of Civil Hospital, where doctors began treatment. Doctors said he suffered a deep neck wound but his condition was stable....
