Man who set himself afire on Friday, dies
VARANASI, Aug. 24 -- A person, who made a self-immolation bid in Raja Talab Tehsil premises, in Varanasi, on Friday, died during treatment on Saturday.
The reason for the extreme step was an order to evict the fallow land that he had occupied illegally.
The victim was identified as Vasishtha Narayan, a resident of Jogapur in Mirzamurad. He was in his late 50s.
He suffered around 50% burn injuries and had been admitted to the Trauma Centre, BHU.
Additional district magistrate (finance and revenue) Vandita Srivastava said Narayan, a resident of Jogapur village, had illegally encroached on fallow land of the village.
In the sequence of constructing a water tank on the land, after hearing under section 67 of Uttar Pradesh Revenue Act, an order was passed by the court of Tehsildar Rajatalab to evict the land. Thereafter, a plea was filed (by him) before the court of additional district magistrate (administration) from where that was rejected after hearing....
