LUCKNOW, June 19 -- A 24-year-old man wanted in more than 20 criminal cases was caught after a brief exchange of fire with a police team in the city's Alambagh in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said. "Anish, who hails from Wazirbagh, opened fire on police officers during an attempted escape. He was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing by police," said DCP-Central Ashish Srivastava. The DCP further added that Anish was involved in a robbery on June 6, when he snatched a bag from a woman in an e-rickshaw near Mavaiya Metro Station. "On June 18, acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted Anish and his associate near Graham Bell overbridge while they were attempting to flee on a motorcycle from Langra Phatak towards Saadatganj. Anish fired at the police with a country-made pistol," said the DCP, adding that his accomplice, identified as Amin, fled the scene. "In self-defence, the police fired back, injuring Anish in the leg. He was immediately taken to Lokbandhu Hospital and is currently under treatment," said the officer....
