Kanpur, Aug. 19 -- A man allegedly tossed two of his daughters, aged four and two years, into the swollen Yamuna from a bridge before jumping into the river in Rampura on Monday morning, Jalaun police said. Another daughter of his, aged six, managed to free herself from his grasp and fled. The incident took place at the Juhikha bridge. The man, identified as Rajjan, 35, of Madhepura village, arrived with his three daughters on a motorcycle. Police said he first pushed his younger daughters into the river, and then leapt in himself. The eldest daughter escaped and alerted villagers, the police said. Divers were pressed into service, but none of the three could be traced by the time this report was filed. Senior officials, including circle officer Ambuj Singh, reached the spot with additional police teams. "Other districts have been informed about the incident. Police have engaged several divers to trace them," said Singh. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Rajjan had been upset after his wife left for her parental home a few days ago. Despite repeated calls, including one on Janmashtami, she did not return, which is believed to have triggered the act, police said....
