Man stabbed to death in Khatima, probe underway, say cops
Rudrapur, Dec. 14 -- A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death and two of his friends injured in an attack by a group of men in Udham Singh Nagar's Khatima on Friday night, said police.
The victim, identified as Tushar Sharma, was standing near a tea stall with a few friends when an argument reportedly broke out between them and another group that arrived at the spot at around 9.30pm, said US Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manikant Mishra.
After the argument escalated, Tushar and his friends were allegedly assaulted with sticks and he was stabbed multiple times, said Mishra. The assailants reportedly fled the spot soon after.
Tushar was rushed to hospital by people present on the scene, where he was declared brought dead, said the SSP.
On Saturday, Tushar's father lodged a complaint against five people- identified as Hashim, Shahbaz, Sameer, Ufran and Pappu- and alleged that they hatched a conspiracy to murder his son and knew him before the incident, said police.
A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint and police are scanning the CCTV footage of the crime scene to ascertain the identity of the assailants, said the SSP.
On Saturday, members of a local Hindu outfit gathered at the police to hold a protest demanding immediate action against the accused.
They also protested near the scene of the crime and reportedly set a tea stall ablaze, prompting the issue of prohibitory orders and deployment of police personnel in the area....
