Man shot self to incriminate relatives, booked, say cops
LUCKNOW, July 12 -- A man who had claimed that he suffered gunshot wounds after he was attacked by two assailants on a motorcycle in Kakori on July 8 was booked after he reportedly gave false statements to police, officials said.
Police said Akash Yadav, 25, of Maunda village, shot himself to falsely implicate his relatives in a murder attempt case over a land dispute. They said an examination revealed that the bullet wound on the accused's shoulder was shot from close range.
"Akash Yadav had initially claimed he was shot at by two unidentified men on a motorcycle on July 8. A case under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered," said SHO Kakori Satish Chandra.
"However, inconsistencies in Akash's statements and the nature of the wound led investigators to dig deeper, and eventually Akash admitted he had conspired with a 70-year-old accomplice, Diwan. He shot himself with a country-made pistol to frame his cousins Raju and Ashish Yadav, with whom he had a long-running property feud."
"Both Akash and Diwan have been booked under multiple sections of the BNS and Arms Act. Charges of criminal conspiracy, fabricating evidence, and illegal firearm possession have been invoked," read a police note....
