Man sentenced to deathfor killing 4 of family in 2013
VARANASI, March 26 -- A court in Varanasi on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for murdering four of a family in Varanasi many years ago. It also slapped a fine of Rs 1,10,000 on the convict.
The court of special judge (anti-corruption VB UPSEB) Vinod Kumar-VI sentenced Ravindra alias Raju Patel, said assistant district government counsel (crime) Rohit Maurya and the complainant's senior counsel, Batuk Nath Maurya.
Maurya said during the trial, the prosecution examined a total of 18 witnesses. After hearing arguments from both sides and adjudicating the case on its merits, the court convicted the accused, Ravindra Raju Patel, on March 23.
On Wednesday, the court heard arguments regarding the quantum of punishment and sentenced the convict to death.
On October 29, 2013, Ravindra had murdered Mohan Jaiswal, his wife, Jhuna Jaiswal, son Pradeep, daughter Pooja Jaiswal in Chandrapur village, using an iron rod and iron crowbar.
An FIR regarding this incident was filed at the Cholapur police station. During the subsequent investigation, the accused-Ravindra, alias Raju Patel-was arrested on November 6, 2013, near the canal in the village.
According to police investigation, Ravindra had expressed his resentment towards Mohan. The latter had forbidden Ravindra from drinking alcohol, gambling and cooking non-vegetarian food near his house. Mohan had also lodged a complaint regarding this matter with Ravindra's father. Driven by this resentment, Ravindra committed this heinous crime, said cops....
