Man sentenced to death for raping, killing 8-yr-old girl
VARANASI, Nov. 20 -- A court in Varanasi on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for allegedly kidnapping, raping, and murdering an eight-year-old girl here in Ramnagar last year.
The court also imposed a Rs 60,000 fine, directing the amount to be given to the victim's father as compensation, said special public prosecutor Sandeep Kumar Jaiswal and the plaintiff's lawyer Tanveer Ahmed Siddiqui.
Additional district Judge Vinod Kumar of the POCSO Act Court found the accused, Irshad, a resident of Sujabad, Ramnagar, guilty after a thorough trial.
The girl went missing on December 24, 2024, around 6:30 p.m. while buying mosquito repellent from a local shop. Her family filed an FIR at Ramnagar police and also reported the case via the helpline number 112. Her body was found the next day near Baldurpur Government School, packed in a sack.
Ramnagar police, led by station in-charge Raju Singh, identified the accused through CCTV footage. He fled when police arrived at his home but was arrested on December 26 in Domri. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to waiting for the girl, then gagging, raping, and strangling her with a scarf. He later concealed her body in a sack, crushed it with a stone, and dumped it near the school.
Following the filing of the charge sheet, the court delivered the death sentence on Tuesday....
