Man providing help to terrorists held: Police
Srinagar, Sept. 25 -- The Jammu & Kashmir Police has arrested a person who allegedly provided logistical support to the terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, officials aware of the details said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Yusuf Kataria from Kulgam district, was allegedly providing logistical support to the three Pakistani terrorists who were killed during an encounter with security forces in July as part of Operation Mahadev, officials said.
"During investigation of the Mahadev operation, the name of Kataria came up and his involvement was found in providing logistical support to terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev by the police," an officer privy to the details said on anonymity, adding that further investigation is underway.
Three terrorists, belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in an encounter with the army in the Dachigam area on the outskirts of Srinagar on July 28. Police and army said the three deceased included the alleged mastermind of the terror attack, Suleiman Shah alias Faizal Jatt, who was believed to be the main shooter in the April 22 attack that killed 26 people, 25 of whom were tourists visiting the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam.
Shah's name figured as the main suspect after the Pahalgam attack and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was also on a lookout for him. NIA has already arrested two people from south Kashmir -- Parvaiz Ahmad Jothatd and Bashir Ahmad -- on June 22 for allegedly harbouring the Pakistani terrorists involved in the attack.
After the Pahalgam attack, Parvaiz and Bashir were arrested under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Officials said that Kataria, an overground worker (OGW), could now be interrogated by the NIA....
