Meerut, Jan. 16 -- Police in Saharanpur district have arrested a 22-year-old man and his friend for stealing gold and silver jewellery worth nearly Rs.20 lakh from the man's own house. The case was solved within a few hours, and a large part of the stolen jewellery has been recovered. The incident took place in Pirwali Gali of the Kotwali Mandi area. Rais Ahmed reported to the police that unknown thieves had entered his house through the roof on Tuesday night and stolen jewellery kept in an almirah. After registering an FIR, the police formed a special team to investigate the case. CCTV cameras in the nearby area were checked, but they did not provide any clear clues. When officers examined the house, they noticed that items inside were not disturbed, which made them suspect that the theft had been carefully planned. During the investigation, suspicion fell on the complainant's son, Saud. A few hours later, police arrested Saud and his friend Moeenuddin during a routine checking drive near 62-Foota Road at Mandi Samiti. Both are residents of Pirwali Gali. Police recovered two necklace sets, two mangalsutras, one matar mala, two pairs of jhumkis and one pair of tops from their possession. SP city Vyom Bindal said that during questioning, Saud admitted that he was unemployed and needed money for personal expenses. He planned the theft with his friend and stole the jewellery from his own house. After the theft, the two shared the jewellery and were planning to sell some of it when they were arrested.
