Lucknow, Oct. 13 -- The Wazirganj police have arrested a habitual offender who used to rob people after offering them lifts in his car. According to Lucknow police, the accused-identified as Mohd Siraj alias Mohd Shoaib Khan, 35, a resident of Bhandu Mohalla, Daliganj, under Hasanganj police station limits-was arrested near Reedhall College on October 11. Police recovered a car used in the crime, eight stolen mobile phones, and Rs.2,630 in cash from his possession. According to a police statement, the arrest followed an investigation based on CCTV footage and mobile phone location tracking after a complaint was lodged on September 9 by Rohit Kumar, a resident of Barabanki. Kumar alleged that an unidentified man offered him a lift in a car and later fled with his mobile phone and cash. Based on his complaint, an FIR under Section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Wazirganj police station. "Following a tip-off, police located the accused standing near the college with a car matching the description seen in CCTV footage. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the robbery and several similar crimes across Barabanki and Lucknow," said SHO Rajesh Kr Tripathi.
