VARANASI, Jan. 14 -- A 32-year-old man allegedly murdered his stepmother and stepbrother by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon (banka) over a long-standing property dispute in Patehra village under Madihan police station area of Mirzapur on Tuesday morning. The accused later attempted to dispose of the bodies, but was arrested following public alert and police action, police said on Tuesday. A police officer said the accused has been identified as Ayush Gupta (32), a building materials businessman residing in Patehra market, while the deceased were identified as Usha Gupta (62), and Ayush Gupta (30). According to reports, Rahul killed Usha and Ayush during a heated argument over property. After the murders, he was carrying both bodies on a tractor-trolley with the intention of disposing of them. However, Ayush's body fell off the vehicle at the Madhihan intersection, and Rahul subsequently dumped Usha Devi's body into the Patehara-Madhihan branch canal. While returning, Rahul attempted to cover his stepbrother's body with a sheet at the intersection when two passersby in the market noticed him. They raised an alarm, prompting the accused to panic and flee towards his house. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and apprehended the accused and recovered the tractor-trailer and the weapon used in the crime. The officer said that during interrogation, Rahul confessed to killing both victims. He also admitted to dumping his stepmother's body into the canal, following which the police recovered the body based on his directions. Additional superintendent of police Manish Mishra stated that the accused, Rahul Gupta, who allegedly murdered his stepmother and stepbrother, has been arrested.
