Man killed over old rivalry, two accused held amid protest
PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 17 -- A man was allegedly murdered over an old rivalry and his body was dumped along the roadside in Trans-Yamuna area of the district. The body was found near Dharwara village on Friday morning, police said.
The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Ashish Sharma, a resident of Bhunda village under Karachhana police station, was a farmer. He left home on Thursday evening around 7 pm stating that he was going to Bharewara market but did not return. On Friday morning, his blood-soaked body was discovered.
Following the incident, angry family members and villagers blocked the Karachhana-Kohdar road near Bhunda turn, demanding the arrest of the accused. Traffic was disrupted for nearly two hours. Police officials reached the spot and managed to disperse the crowd after assuring action. ACP (Karachhana) Sunil Kumar Singh said a case was registered on the complaint of the victim's brother Manish Sharma against Halim Ali of Bhunda village, Gulab Vishwakarma of Kechhua village, and one unidentified person. Both named accused have been arrested. During questioning, they confessed to killing the youth by hitting him on the head with a hammer due to an old enmity.
