Man killed in tiger attack in Katarniaghat
Bahraich, Sept. 16 -- A man was reportedly mauled to death by a tiger in the Murtiha area of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS) on Sunday night.
According to locals, Indal, 26, was attacked by the tiger hiding in the bushes and dragged into the forests near Harkhapur village in the Katarniaghat forest area, had gone out around 8 p.m. for defecation. A tiger hiding in the bushes suddenly pounced on him and dragged him away into the forest. His mutilated body, with claw marks on the chest, was found around 9 pm.
Divisional forest officer (DFO) KWS Suraj Kumar confirmed that pugmarks found at the site suggested a tiger attack. He said that camera traps and fox lights had been installed in the area, and four special teams were patrolling to track the big cat. The DFO said financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 has been provided to the family members and further assistance would be provided to them as per the rules after the post-mortem....
