KanpurA, June 13 -- 52-year-old man in Chitrakoot district died on Wednesday night after he was allegedly assaulted by three men, reportedly over his use of the surname 'Singh'. The incident occurred in Pipraund village, under the jurisdiction of Mau police station. The deceased, identified as Ram Shiromani, was allegedly attacked at around 7 pm by a youth and two others from the same village. Family members rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) in Mau, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment a few hours later. According to local police, preliminary findings suggest that the altercation was triggered by the victim's use of 'Singh' in his name, which allegedly offended the accused. "The names of Chhotu Pandey and two others have emerged in the investigation. The motive appears to be related to a dispute over the use of 'Singh' as a surname," said Mau station house officer (SHO) Durg Vijay Singh. Superintendent of police (SP), Chitrakoot, Arun Kumar Singh, said an FIR has been registered in the case and the individuals behind the assault will be arrested soon. "There is no mention of the use of the 'Singh' surname as a motive in the FIR, but the family members met me today (Thursday) with a complaint highlighting this.
