VARANASI, Jan. 2 -- A man in his mid-twenties was killed after being run over and dragged for nearly four kilometres by a speeding car near Bhuili Khas village under the Adalhat police station limits in Mirzapur on Thursday. Three others were injured, said police. The incident took place while locals were gathered along the roadside for a blanket distribution. According to the police, one of the six people became trapped in the car, which allegedly failed to stop and instead dragged him for nearly four kilometres from the spot. The vehicle reportedly came to a halt only after it overturned. Acting on the information, police reached the spot and found the man's remains. His body had been completely dismembered, said police. The deceased was identified as Dharmendra, a resident of Chakia Chandauli, said Rajesh Gupta, Chunar sub-divisional magistrate. He said that the three people, who suffered minor injuries, were rushed to the hospital where they received treatment. Adalhat station house officer Ajay Seth said that a blanket distribution programme was underway along the Sherwa-Adalhat road, with people standing along the roadside.
