Man injured in bear attack in Rudraprayag
Mussoorie, Nov. 28 -- A man from Rudraprayag district was seriously injured in a bear attack, prompting forest and health officials to launch an immediate response.
Bharat Chaudhary, a resident of Kot Malla village in the Ranigarh Patti area, was returning home after opening a water supply line from a nearby tank on Wednesday when a bear suddenly charged at him on a forest trail, officials said.
Displaying remarkable presence of mind, Chaudhary fought back, shouting and raising an alarm. During the struggle, he suffered deep wounds to one of his legs. He managed to scare the bear away. Villagers took him to the District Hospital in Rudraprayag, from where he was referred to the Base Hospital in Srikot for treatment.
Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Principal of the Medical College, assessed Chaudhary's condition. He instructed doctors to ensure the "highest level of care" for the patient.
Recounting the terrifying encounter from his hospital bed, Chaudhary said, "I was returning after opening the water supply when the bear suddenly attacked. To save myself, I climbed a tree, but the bear followed me. In desperation, I kicked it. The bear grabbed my leg in its mouth and injured me badly. Somehow, I chased it away by shouting."...
