Man hurt as 2 groups clash, open fire
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 9 -- Two groups clashed at Gohari Tiraha under Phaphamau police station area, in Prayagraj, late on Sunday night. Several rounds of gunfire were witnessed from both sides. A young man was seriously injured after being shot in the leg. Both groups attacked each other with sticks and rods too.
Based on the complaint filed by the injured man's father, police have registered an FIR against two named and seven unidentified individuals. Four other accused have been detained and are being interrogated.
According to police, Akash Yadav of Gohari village and Abhishek Maurya, a resident of Ismailganj, Tharwai, had a dispute over some issue. Meanwhile, they exchanged threats on each other's mobile phones. Late on Sunday night, dozens of youths from both the groups reached Gohari Tiraha with sticks and rods.
Both sides attacked each other with sticks. It is alleged that one side started firing indiscriminately.
Vatsalya Yadav, a resident of Rasulpur Chandi in Nawabganj, was injured after being shot in the leg. The injured was admitted to SRN Hospital. On the complaint of the injured's father Mukesh Yadav, a case has been registered against Anurag Yadav of Korsand village and Akash Yadav of Gohari, along with seven unidentified persons. SHO of Phaphamau police station Ashwani Kumar Singh said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered and further action is being taken.
Tension gripped the Jhokri Adampur locality under the Nawabganj police station, in Prayagraj, on Monday, after two groups clashed over old rivalry. The incident left six people injured and resulted in extensive damage to vehicles.
According to reports, members of one group allegedly assaulted two lawyer brothers, a former military officer, and other family members. The attackers also vandalised their four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Police teams from multiple stations, including Nawabganj, rushed to the spot to control the situation. The injured from both sides were admitted to hospital.
Based on a complaint lodged by retired Army officer Surendra Kumar Shukla, police registered a named FIR against 25 men and nine women. The rival group has also filed a counter-complaint.
A licenced revolver went missing from the storeroom of Naini police station in Prayagraj. SHO of Naini police station Brijkishore Gautam filed a case against the dismissed former storehouse in-charge Rajendra Prasad on Sunday night. The head clerk was dismissed in 2016 for embezzling Rs 25 lakh.
The missing revolver belonged to one Pappu alias Rehmat Ali, which was seized in 2007 in connection with a murder case. The district magistrate had issued an order on July 5, 2023, to release the revolver. Following the non-compliance of the order, Pappu had filed a writ petition in the Allahabad high court.
On December 3, 2025, a team got the store opened and searched the storeroom with videography, but the revolver was not found.
Police are set to raise the Rs 50,000 reward on drug smuggler Pankaj Tripathi, a Kaushambi resident and former Congress Kada division president, after repeated failure to arrest him. SHO Dharmendra Singh of Saini police station has recommended the increase to SP Rajesh Kumar. Tripathi has been on the run since October 29, when a joint STF and ANTF raid recovered 59.245 kg of marijuana worth Rs 15 lakh from a shop he rented in Murain Ka Pura....
