Man held with opium in US Nagar's Kichha
Rudrapur, Sept. 16 -- Police arrested a 31-year-old man with 1.13 kg of opium during routine checking in Kichha, of US Nagar, on Sunday evening, police officers said.
The accused, identified as Mohmed Arif of Bhamora in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, was produced in court on Monday and sent to jail.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said the accused provided crucial leads about the drug network during interrogation.
"We are gathering evidence and identifying hideouts of the network," Mishra said.
Police officers said Arif was stopped on his bike on Darau village road in Kichha, where a search led to the recovery of opium worth about Rs.5 lakh. His bike and mobile phone have also been seized.
During questioning, Arif allegedly admitted that he had received the consignment from one Shoaib Khan of Dhora Tanda, Bareilly, and was on his way to deliver it in Kichha when he was caught. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act....
