Dehradun, Nov. 26 -- A 35-year-old road contractor was arrested in connection with an FIR registered after 161 gelatin sticks were found near a government school in Almora on November 20, police said on Tuesday. Police said the recovered gelatin sticks - classified as explosives - are typically used for stone breaking in road construction work. The accused, identified as Prashant Kumar of Champawat, had taken up construction of a three-km village road in 2016-17 and had rented a room in Dabra village during the project where he kept the construction material. "In 2018, when a rock formation obstructed the under-construction road, his partner Lavi allegedly arranged the gelatin sticks through an unidentified source. As Prashant Kumar neither vacated the rented room without paying the rent, landlord Himmat Singh tried to contact him but received no response. He then broke open the room and cleared the contractor's material with the help of labourers, who dumped all items in nearby bushes. The landlord was unaware that a gelatin tube was among the discarded items," Almora SSP Devendra Pincha said.
