Man gets life term for raping minor stepdaughter
LUCKNOW, Sept. 27 -- A POCSO court in Ghazipur district on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his minor stepdaughter, stated a note from the police headquarters. It stated that the court's decision was made just 15 days after charges against the man were framed.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on him.
This swift action was part of the Uttar Pradesh government's "Mission Shakti" campaign, which aims to ensure zero tolerance towards crimes against women and girls, the communique added. A senior police official said an FIR was registered at the Shadiabad police station under sections 65(2) BNS for rape and appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on July 20. Ashok Banwasi, the accused, was arrested the next day. The court accepted the case on September 9 and framed charges on September 12.
