MEERUT, May 23 -- A court in Amroha on Tuesday (May 20) awarded life sentence to a man for murdering a woman six years ago. Giving this information, additional district government counsel (ADGC) Manoj Saxena said the court also imposed a fine of Rs.2,000 on the convict Ram Prasad alias Omprakash, a native of Sambhal district, who resided in Amroha. Following the verdict, the accused, who had been out on bail, was taken into custody and sent to jail, he added. According to case details, the murder was committed on May 9, 2019 in Shastri Nagar, a residential locality in Amroha city. The accused, who was living on rent in the house of one Chhatrapal Singh in Shastri Nagar, had allegedly brought the victim Seema, 24, from Rafatpura village in Budaun, under the pretext of shelter but had actually kidnapped her. To mislead neighbours and avoid suspicion, he introduced the woman as his daughter, the ADGC added. He arranged Seema's marriage with one Chandrasen of the same locality. When Seema expressed her wish to marry another man, an enraged Omprakash allegedly murdered her by slitting her throat. Police investigation revealed that he had a history of luring young women under the guise of marriage arrangements and subsequently selling them. After his arrest, he was produced in the court and sent to jail. He was later released on bail during the trial, said the ADGC. The case was heard in the court of additional district and sessions judge (Special SC/ST Act), Sanjay Chaudhary. "...
