Man gets death penalty for girl's rape, murder
Chandigarh, June 4 -- The special Pocso court of additional sessions judge Yashika on Tuesday sentenced a 40-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in January 2024, calling it a crime most brutal that clearly falls in the "rarest of the rare" category,
The court had yesterday convicted Hira Lal, a painter and resident of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh under section 6 of the Pocso Act and Section 302 of the IPC (murder). The court ruled that the execution would be carried out only after confirmation by the high court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh. The court also ordered final compensation of Rs.17 lakh to the dependants of the victim to be disbursed by the state legal services authority.
"The entire record of the case along with the duly sealed electronic evidence be submitted before the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, for confirmation of death sentence under Section 366(1) CrPC. In this regard, a request letter along with the record is being sent to the high court," said the court, adding that the victim was the daughter of very poor parents who rented a single room. htc...
