LUCKNOW, Nov. 19 -- A special CBI court in Lucknow on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for causing the death of his eight-month-old son in 2019 in Nigohan. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.25,000 on the convict, Surendra Sahu, a resident of Rati village under Nigohan police station, officials said on Tuesday. Lucknow Police and prosecution team made a sustained effort to ensure justice to the victim under 'Operation Conviction', a campaign aimed at ensuring speedy and effective convictions in serious criminal cases. ACP Vikas Kumar Pandey said station house officer Anuj Kumar Tiwari and court case officer head constable Govind Singh pursued the case consistently, ensuring that the accused got condign punishment. On July 16, 2019, Surendra allegedly had an argument with his wife Laxmi. Enraged, he picked their infant son who was asleep and threw him onto the ground. The child died on the spot.
