Man found unconscious in hotel room, dies later
LUCKNOW, Jan. 17 -- A 45-year-old man was found unconscious in a hotel room in the Vibhuti Khand area and later died during treatment, police said on Friday. Police were alerted around 10:30 am by a hotel staff member, following which a team reached the spot and rushed the man to RML Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was declared dead. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Fahimuddin Zahid, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra, who worked as a senior manager with a private finance company and was in Lucknow on official work. Police said no external injuries were found. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination.
A 30-year-old woman died after allegedly being assaulted by her husband over dowry demands in the Chinhat area, police said on Friday. The deceased, Preeti Rai, a contractual nurse at RML Institute of Medical Sciences, had married Mrityunjay Rai of Gorakhpur in 2002. In a complaint, her father Rajkumar Rai alleged that Preeti was subjected to physical abuse and harassment for dowry, with her in-laws siding with her husband. According to the FIR, Mrityunjay informed Preeti's sister around 3 pm on January 11 that she had died. She was taken to hospital, where doctors declared her dead on Friday. Police said the probe is ongoing.
Two separate fire incidents were reported in the state capital on Friday, triggering panic in residential areas within the Thakurganj police station limits. Fire personnel managed to control both situations, and no casualties were reported.
In the first incident, a fire broke out at the ground-floor house of Raj Singh Bisen in the New Haiderganj's Roshan Nagar area, under Thakurganj police station. The other incident was reported at the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) G+3 flats in the Basant Kunj area. The fire reportedly broke out in a first-floor flat, forcing a resident to jump from the balcony to save his life. He escaped without serious injuries.
Police recovered the body of a 30-year-old labourer from the Amava forest under the Banthra police station area on Friday, a day after he went missing from his village.
