MEERUT, May 31 -- Panic gripped Mohanpur area under the Cantt police station limits of Bareilly district on Friday morning after the body of a 25-year-old man was found lying in front of the local Panchayat Ghar. The deceased was later identified as Sankit Chauhan, a resident of Ashok Nagar under the jurisdiction of Baradari police station, police said, adding it appeared to be a suspected case of murder. According to police, they received a call from a local youth named Rohit, informing them about the recovery of the body. When officers reached the spot, they spotted a mobile phone lying next to the body, with an incoming call flashing on it. When an officer answered the call, the person at the other end introduced himself as Ankit Chauhan, the elder brother of the deceased. He reached the spot and identified the body. Inspector Rajesh Kumar, Cantt police station, said there was a bullet-like injury on the left side of the chest, with blood visible at the scene. "This appears to be a suspected case of murder. However, the family of the deceased has not submitted a formal complaint as yet," said Kumar. Police have sent the body for the post-mortem examination and further probe is underway. According to police, Ankit told them that Sankit was addicted to drugs and worked at a dairy shop in front of a hospital. He was last seen at his workplace at around 11pm on Thursday.
