Man fakes death for insurance money
Lucknow, Nov. 6 -- A couple from Jankipuram here was arrested for faking the husband's death to commit an insurance fraud worth Rs 25 lakh, police said on Wednesday. The 'dead' man was found to be living under the same roof as his wife, who is also the claimant.
"The accused, Ravi Shankar, is a collection agent and his wife Kesh Kumari is a homemaker. They were arrested by Hazratganj Police on Tuesday night," said Vikram Singh, Hazratganj SHO.
According to police, Aviva India Insurance had issued a policy worth Rs.25 lakh in Ravi Shankar's name in 2012. In April 2023, Kesh Kumari submitted a claim supported by a fabricated death certificate and Aadhaar card, stating that her husband had died on April 9, 2023.
Trusting the documents, the insurance company transferred Rs.25 lakh via NEFT into her bank account.
"However, an internal audit raised suspicion. Investigators discovered Ravi Shankar was alive, and the death certificate was forged as part of a planned conspiracy between the couple," the SHO added.
